I recently saw the film Silver Linings Playbook and was pleasantly surprised by the blend of comedic scenes and dramatic storyline. The movie showcases former teacher Pat Solitano, who moves back home with his parents after spending some time in a mental institution. Pat is on a mission to reconcile his relationship with his ex-wife, but he runs into a number of obstacles along the way.

There are a lot of great things about this film, and the list doesn’t end with the acting. Bradley Cooper does a great job portraying a mixed-up man in love, someone who proves to have an over-sized heart. I found myself rooting for his character from the beginning of the film, feeling heartache whenever he took a step in the wrong direction. Jennifer Lawrence plays his perfect match, someone who understands what it means to be confused about life. Her witty and intense outbursts will have you watching from the edge of your seat. But my heart truly went out to Robert De Niro’s character, Mr. Solitano. His relationship with his son and obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles made me fall deeper in love with his dysfunctional though loving family.

Silver Linings Playbook is proof that things don’t always go according to plan. The film does a great job of outlining the common mistakes made in life, making it relatable to people of all ages. It combines humor and drama to create an exhilarating tale that takes the audience on a journey of their own. Most of all, Silver Linings Playbook is an unconventional love story. Just when you think you know how it’s going to end, think again. This movie is loaded with a number of pleasant surprises. I would recommend it as a must see for everyone!
