New Year’s Resolutions to Practice All Year

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions for 2017?

It seems like every year, people set goals at the beginning of the year, only to put them aside just a few short weeks into January. But as February approaches, we have ideas for resolutions worth working toward all year long. Enjoy!

Broaden your horizons

One of our favorite things about being located in Andersonville is all of the unique shops, food and cultural opportunities. Is your 2017 ambition to try something new or visit a place you’ve never been? You don’t have to go far to be exposed to new people and places. We’ve talked before about the vibrant experiences that are all within walking distance from CMSS, and we’ve only just scratched the surface on the immense opportunities offered in the Chicago area and beyond.

This year, try a new cuisine, or look for an art exhibit or concert unlike anything you’ve seen or heard before. You can also stop by a local library or bookseller — we’re big fans of Andersonville’s Women and Children First. Browse the shelves or ask an employee for their recommendations, and try a new genre or explore new subject matter.

Get involved in your community

Whether it’s enrolling in a new art class or taking on a local volunteer opportunity, it is never too late to get involved in your community. Is there a hobby that has always sounded interesting to you but you’ve never made time for? 2017 could be the year to go for it. Ask friends to sign up with you or use this chance to meet new people.

If there’s a cause that’s close to your heart, find a way to get more involved. We’re always looking for volunteers at CMSS, and you can help out by yourself or as part of a group. Interested? There’s no time like the present to fill out a volunteer application.

Make every moment count

Whether you are the most happy spending time with family or curling up with a great read, we can’t say enough about learning to appreciate and cherish every moment. This year, try carving out some regular time to take stock of your day and week. What are the things in your life you’d like to do more? Are there things you spend time on out of habit that no longer mean much to you? Instead of waiting for another new year to make the changes you want to see in your life, consider what you can adjust gradually to make your days just a little bit brighter. You might be surprised by how much you decide to change up your routine over the course of the year.
