CMSS would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Arthur Elstein, PhD, who has been a generous supporter of the organization for nearly a decade. Arthur’s thoughtful giving has enabled CMSS to provide care, programs, and services to older adults across Chicagoland.
Arthur’s connection with CMSS began in 2014, when he and his wife, Rochelle Elstein, PhD, sought a residential option for her care. An accomplished academic and mother of three, Rochelle “Shelli” loved to cook and hosting dinner parties. When Shelli began to struggle with both severe depression and progressive dementia, the couple began to search for a nearby community where she could live comfortably while receiving qualified care for both depression and memory loss. They struggled to find an option that was close to their home and had the needed expertise, until they received a recommendation from another provider and came to Hartwell Place.
The Hartwell Place team was honored to provide compassionate and experienced care to Shelli. Arthur was able to visit the Hartwell Place community frequently to spend time with Shelli and go out for coffee in the neighborhood.

When asked what sets Hartwell Place apart, Arthur said, “Finding the right care was really difficult. We needed a community with the right expertise that was geographically close to our home. The team at Hartwell Place did a marvelous job, they provided care with love and compassion. The community was there for us when we needed them. They got to know Shelli personally and adjusted their care to her needs. For example, they prepared Kosher meals for Shelli and adjusted her dinners to accommodate a Kosher diet.”
Arthur added, “I am very grateful to CMSS and Hartwell Place, which is why I continue to give and support each year, to help other families like ours access the care and compassion that their loved ones deserve.”
Thanks to Arthur for his kind words and consistent support over the years. Your contributions make a difference for older adults and help us reach more seniors across Chicagoland.
