Design Guidelines:
Avoid scattered graphics and cluttered layouts. Too many elements on a page makes it hard for the eye to focus. When less is on a page, every element there counts for more and can be taken in more readily by the audience. For the same reason, avoid mixing different shapes in the same layout, such as mixing circles with rounded-corner rectangles and ellipses. Stick to one type of shape and treat each one consistently for particular types of information. This will build a clean and visually strong look.
Give content room to breathe draws attention to it. Use an adequate amount of white space to create a visually balanced layout and to help the reader’s eye move through the content easily. Simplify layouts and their readability by avoiding the use of borders around images, boxing in elements or creating other types of content containers within a page.
Visually align elements to create a balanced and well organized look. Align text and other elements to each other, to the margins or the grid.
