Art History Lecture with Mark: “Lorado Taft: Chicago Sculptor and Educator”

November 1, 2018      3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

In the first three decades of the twentieth century, Taft was an artistic, pedagogical and civic force in this city. Works such as the Fountain of the Great Lakes and the Fountain of Time contributed to the City Beautiful Movement. He taught generations of artists in his posts at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago, and he was a dynamic booster and leader in all things cultural. This talk explores his art and outlook at this pivotal time in our city’s history.

Art historian, Dr. Mark Pohlad, is the Arts Programming Director for CMSS’ three aging services communities, Covenant Home of Chicago, Hartwell Place and Wesley Place. Pohlad comes to CMSS from DePaul University, where he serves as an associate professor in the history of art and architecture. Pohlad has volunteered with CMSS for the past year, giving college-level art history presentations to CMSS residents and leading resident tours at the Art Institute of Chicago.
