When we are faced with the decision of what services to use --
whether it's a nursing facility or any other service -- several
questions are likely to arise: Who should provide the services? Are
the available providers basically the same or are there major
differences in quality? How do I judge the quality of competing
service providers?
One of the ways that some service providers can establish
quality is by becoming accredited. When a provider has
accreditation, it is demonstrating to consumers a commitment to
continuous quality improvement and the highest standards of
service.
CARF and CMSS
Chicagoland Methodist Senior Services was first accredited in
2007 by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation
Facilities (CARF). Just recently, CARF was back at CMSS after we
had requested our annual on-site survey of our operations. Over the
course of three days, CARF surveyed everything from CMSS leadership
to housekeeping services and meal choices. Based on the results of
the survey, CARF prepares a written report of our strengths and
areas for improvement. If we sufficiently demonstrate our
conformance to their internationally-recognized standards, we will
earn reconfirmed accreditation for each of our programs. This can
be an intensive and time-consuming process, but by earning CARF
accreditation, CMSS is ensuring the highest level of efficiency,
service delivery, and most importantly, consumer satisfaction.
About CARF
Founded in 1966, CARF International is an independent, nonprofit
accreditor of health and human services in many areas-including
aging services, which CMSS provides. CARF currently accredits more
than 47,000 programs and services in more than 20,000 locations on
five continents.
CARF accreditation requires a service provider to commit to
quality improvement, focus on the unique needs of each person
served (including staff), and monitor the results of the
services.
Choosing a service provider is always a big decision, and it's
often difficult to know which provider will provide the best
service for you and your loved ones. By making sure your provider
has been accredited, you can rest assured that their commitment to
excellence has been thoroughly evaluated.
