There are many health risks associated with weight; this holds
true if you are either underweight or overweight. Maintaining a
healthy weight may reduce the risk of many chronic diseases and
help you stay physically active and mentally sharp. To be safe, ask
your doctor or dietitian what the optimal healthy weight is for
you.
Common Health Risks of Being Underweight:
- poor memory
- decreased immunity
- osteoporosis
- decreased muscle strength
- lowered body temperature
- constipation
Common Health Risks of Being Overweight:
- type 2 diabetes
- high blood pressure
- high cholesterol
- coronary heart disease
- stroke
- some types of cancer
- gallbladder disease
Remember to always talk to your health care provider or
dietitian before trying to gain or lose weight. Everyone is
different, including what we need to meet our unique nutritional
needs.
