Memory Support Assisted Living

Memory Support Assisted Living at The Hartwell

Specialized Care for those with Memory Limitations

On a tree-lined street in historic Andersonville, The Hartwell provides a warm, familiar welcome. It's the perfect setting for those with Alzheimer's or other dementias.

When memory and the ability to function independently decline, our safe and stimulating lifestyle provides a natural and rewarding alternative to remaining in the family home. Our easy comfort, relaxing atmosphere and trained professionals offer a familiar extension of lifelong habits.

Family Approach to Personalized Service

To ensure that each resident-and every family member-feels comfortable and secure with our services, we partner with families to personalize service plans for every individual. We take the time to explore personal history and interests so we can tailor service to individual needs. By monitoring and modifying plans, we remain responsive to changes.

Provided by a staff trained in memory support, our services encourage residents to fully use their abilities to make choices and maximize their independence. We support their continuing well-being with safe, stimulating, multisensory opportunities that focus attention and foster self-esteem while reducing anxiety.

Focused, Activity Based Programming

Our goal is to help keep the disease from progressing through community living and engaging activities. Through our activity based programming, we focus on stimulating mental, social and physical engagement. Throughout each day there are at least two structured activities offered per hour to accommodate individual interests and abilities.

Upon admission, a Life Story Assessment is completed for each resident. This includes basic facts about the person's life, their interests and hobbies, their career or leisure experiences as well as their favorite foods, movies, etc. This tool allows us to build the content of our activity programming around the specific interests of each resident. Despite the decline of cognitive function, certain activities that were once favored by a resident may still trigger interest and incite participation. We put an emphasis on community engagement as well - daily walks in the neighborhood and frequent outings to museums, entertainment, special events, shopping and dining are just a few of the opportunities we offer.

Comfortable Connection

Although yesterday's events may be hazy for those with Alzheimer's or other dementias, fond memories of long ago can bring comfort and a sense of connection. By encouraging residents to reminisce and share life stories, we foster the peaceful spirit that can elude those with memory limitations.

Spiritual Heritage of Respect

As an organization with more than a century of Christian heritage, we value spirituality. Our faith-based mission compels us to value the dignity and unique needs of every individual. At The Hartwell, we respect all faith traditions as the foundation of personal spirituality.

Affordable Alternative

In addition to decreasing the burden on loved ones, memory support assisted living at The Hartwell is a cost-effective alternative to a full-time, in-home caregiver. Although we may be one of Chicago's most affordable memory support assisted living providers, you'll find our services and residence are second to none.
